Political Candidates And Voters: Accept The Results

The NGO COUNCIL OF KENYA has launched a Countrywide Peace campaign known as the Mwananchi Peace initiative for Kenyans and various candidates to accept the results of the August 9 general elections without resorting to any actions that might threaten peace and stability in the country saying the destiny of 52 million Kenyans is far greater than individual ambition

Speaking at a National Peace Conference organized by the council and other stakeholders in Nairobi, Council Chairman Stephen K. Cheboi told any candidate who feels aggrieved with the election results to head to the courts to seek justice through the judicial process and not resort to chaos.
"The Kenya Elections law is clear all complaints of unfairness or irregularities must be taken to court as judges are waiting to deliver justice expeditiously.
Cheboi said voters must keenly assess the manifestos of presidential Candidates and vote wisely for leaders who Will take the country to the next level.
Cheboi said Kenya was a beacon of peace and stability in the region and should lead by example urging hardliners across the political divide to restrain themselves and allow the choice of the majority of Kenyans to deliver their final verdict.
The NGO Council Chairman praised the various political parties and their candidates including the independent Candidates for widely engaging in peaceful campaigns from the Start to the end as there had been few incidents of violence witnessed saying this was good for the nation. The national chairman said elections happen on one day and like any other contest must have a winner and loser.
May the best win but more importantly may Kenya be the eventual winner when peace and tranquility are upheld.". He said the Council will continue to champion a peaceful nation even after the general elections.
